What to Wear TrampoliningHints and Tips on What Should be Worn to Trampolining Sessions© Kim Ford
Apart from the trampoline of course, trampolining doesn't require any special equipment but people often ask 'What shall I wear?'
Trampolining does not require the participant to purchase any specific equipment unlike football where boots and maybe the team strip or goalie gloves are required or swimming where a swimming costume and goggles must be brought. Basic Safety AdviceA few things to remember when dressing for trampolining is that things can get stuck in the weave of the bed and large buckles or zips can hurt when you land on them! Items of clothing with exposed zips are best avoided as are belts with buckles or items with toggles. Hoods on jumpers and cardigans can distract the trampolinist and cause blind spots. Hoods can be tucked inside the back of the jumper or cardigan to get rid of them and reduce the risk. Wear Socks on the TrampolineSocks are the one thing a trampolinist must wear at all times as they prevent the toes from getting stuck in the holes in the bed. Any socks are suitable although some trampolinists prefer to wear ‘slipper socks’ as they provide more grip. A trampolinist may find that their socks start to wear out slightly quicker than normal due to the friction caused by jumping. Bare feet or shoes (except special trampolining shoes) should not be allowed on the trampoline. Can I Wear Jewellery on a Trampoline? As with all sport, jewellery should be removed before participating. If the ears are newly pierced plasters can be worn to cover the studs in an attempt to avoid them getting caught. Jewellery includes all necklaces, bracelets, watches, rings, earrings and especially belly button piercings. This is something people often forget about until they attempt a front drop….. What Children Should Wear to Trampolining LessonsChildren attending trampoline lessons can get away with most items of clothing so long as they can move freely. T-shirt’s and either shorts or trousers are worn by most children. Girls, especially those who also do gymnastics, often like to wear leotards with a pair of shorts or trousers over the top. Long hair should be tied up securely in a soft hair band. Trampolining Clothing for AdultsMost adults attending trampolining sessions will often arrive in their gym kit which is ideal for trampolining. Generally adults are asked to wear whatever they are comfortable and can move in. Sports bras are an essential for women and most department stores can help with finding the correct fit. Cover Elbows and KneesScraped knees and elbows are a common problem when learning front drops and trampolinists are advised to wear long sleeved tops and full length trousers to alleviate this problem. Remember the Basic Rules
